Objective
An Ob/Gyn in a large group practice in Florida, Dr. F,* has been collecting cord blood for his patients for more than 10 years using a passive, gravity-dependent bag. To better serve his patients, Dr. F saw the need to improve his collections in a way that would maintain sterility and increase the volume.
Rationale
Having more stem cells for treatment has been shown to improve medical outcomes.10,11 Retrieving the maximum number of stem cells begins with the proper collection of the cord blood and is further improved with rigorous, high-quality processing and storage.
Method

Results
When adjusted for birth weight, Dr. F's average collection volume increased by 58% with the active CBR collection system compared to the passive bag. Absolute collection volume showed a 71% increase.
